Vocational Education Initiative
The Karen Blixen Camp Trust Vocational Education Initiative at the Karen Blixen Camp is proudly following the footsteps of the Danish poet Karen Blixen by empowering the local communities through education in the heart of the Maasai Mara. The KBCT Vocational Education Initiative is comprised of the Culinary Arts Program, the Information and Communication Technology Program, and Entrepreneurship Program.READ MORE

The Mara Cat Project
In 2023 the Mara Cat Project became affiliated with KBCT. The overall goal of the project is to determine the impact on wildlife and human populations of feral domestic cats around the households and the tourist camps within the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Automobile Mechanics School
KBCT will be launching a new program in mid to late 2024, an Automobile Mechanics School, which will be managed under the Vocational Education Initiative of the Trust. The goal is to train interested local Maasai youth auto-mechanics for self-employment or employment at camps within Mara North Conservancy as well as outside the Mara. READ MORE
Mara Elephant Project Partnership
For several years the KBCT helicopter was utilized in the air by our partner organization, Mara Elephant Project (MEP), which logged hundreds of hours of fly time within the Mara North Conservancy and adjoining areas. The helicopter was principally utilized to protect the savanna elephants, who are threatened by poaching for the illegal ivory trade, climate change, habitat loss and destruction, and an increasing number of human-elephant conflicts. In 2022, Karen Blixen Camp Trust donated the helicopter to Mara Elephant Project so it could have more direct access to use of the helicopter for their expanding range of activities over a larger geographical area. The cookery- and hospitality school at KBC
Our dream is to nurture a love and passion for professional cooking; making our young chefs among the very best in Africa! Karen Blixen Cooking School is a 1½ year program recognized by the Kenyan Government and the local tourism sector. Our ambition is to give students a comprehensive and practical hands-on understanding; balancing between the classical and modern cuisine. Mara North Conservancy Dog Project
Domestic dogs are an essential part of the Maasai culture and are used for guarding and protecting livestock from wild animal predators. The guard dogs thereby help reduce the human-wildlife conflicts, which are inevitable in areas where humans and wildlife coexists. However, the number of dogs in the Maasai Mara ecosystem is increasing rapidly and free-roaming domestic dogs now pose a real threat to wildlife by transferring diseases and chasing, disturbing and killing wildlife. Wildlife Habitat Protection
The survival of Maasai Mara is severally challenged. Less than 50% of the greater Mara ecosystem is under governmental protection. As a result, vast areas that are crucial for the existence of this extraordinary biosphere depend upon on private and community initiatives such as conservancies for sustainability and conservation.
