Cultivating Talent: Welcoming ZBC Interns & A New Cohort at Our Cooking School

At Karen Blixen Camp, we believe that true luxury is not just about providing exceptional safari experiences, but also about uplifting the communities that make our home in the Maasai Mara so special. Education and cultural exchange are at the heart of our mission, and this month, we have some exciting developments to share regarding the Karen Blixen Camp Trust (KBCT) Vocational Education Initiative.

A Global Exchange: Welcoming Our ZBC Interns We are absolutely thrilled to welcome two talented students from Zeeland Business College (ZBC) who have joined us for an immersive internship program.

Bringing fresh perspectives and international hospitality standards to the Mara, our ZBC interns are working closely with our camp team to exchange valuable skills. For these students, it is an unparalleled opportunity to learn the intricacies of running a world-class luxury eco-camp in one of the globe’s most fragile and beautiful ecosystems. For our local staff, it is a wonderful chance to collaborate, share the warmth of Kenyan hospitality, and foster a truly global exchange of ideas.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Chefs The excitement doesn’t stop there! Our onsite Karen Blixen Cooking School is currently buzzing with the energy of a brand-new cohort of aspiring chefs.

Recognized by the Kenyan Government, our intensive 1.5-year Culinary Arts Program is designed to nurture a deep passion for professional cooking among local youth in the Maasai Mara. This term, our new students will be mastering a comprehensive curriculum that balances classic culinary techniques with modern gastronomy.

Throughout their training, the students will focus on:

Fundamental Cooking Skills: Mastering the preparation of meats, fish, and locally sourced organic vegetables.

Creative Presentation: Learning the art of plating using fresh herbs and edible flowers from our very own gardens.

Sustainable Practices: Understanding food costing, nutrition, and minimizing food waste in a remote camp setting.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication shown by these young men and women. The next time you dine with us, you might just be tasting the brilliant creations of Africa’s next top chefs!
